MET LIFE BUILDING

Napoleon LeBrun's famous Met Life tower. (1909) Actually, the building to the right is also part of the Met Life building; in a few years, they would build a gargantuan addition that looked like an idealized mountain range, and it would overwhelm this slender tower. But for a few decades this tower ruled Madison Square with enlightened grace. It still stands.
