WOMAN DIES AFTER FALL

An auburn-haired woman, tentatively identified by Deputy Coroner Mike Brown as Olga Steck, 33, former Broadway show girl, was killed in a 12-story plunge from a hotel today.

Brown launched an investigation to determine whether she was pushed from the window or had committed suicide after a gay drinking party.

Later:

Thomas L. Matkins, Los Angeles bond salesman and former husband of the star, was held in the city prison for further questioning by police, who declared they were not satisfied with his story of the circumstances leading to the death plunge.

Matkins surrendered voluntarily after police had sought him for nine hours. He disappeared from the hotel room shortly after the girl dropped to her death.

He told officers he was packing a suitcase in the room when he "heard a switch and turned around" and his ex-wife was gone.
